Gurtagaddi Divas Shri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji

Guru Hargobind Sahib was the sixth Sikh Guru, who played a crucial role in shaping the history and identity of the community. He was born in 1595, in the village of Guru Ki Wadali in Amritsar, Punjab, India, and was the son of Guru Arjan Dev ji, the fifth Sikh Guru.

Here are some of the important episodes and points about Guru Hargobind Sahib:

Guruship:
Guru Arjan Dev ji appointed Guru Hargobind Sahib as his successor, and he became the sixth Sikh Guru at the age of eleven after the martyrdom of his father in 1606.

Militarization:
Guru Hargobind ji is known for initiating the militarization of the Sikh community. He organized and trained the Sikhs in martial arts and warfare, which helped them to defend themselves against the Mughal oppression.

Creation of Akal Takht:
Guru Hargobind ii built the Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of authority for the Sikhs, in 1609. It was meant to represent the idea of justice, equality, and sovereignty of the Sikh community.

The Battle of Amritsar:
In 1629, Guru Hargobind Ji fought against the Mughal forces in the Battle of Amritsar. It was a significant event in Sikh history, where the Guru showed his military prowess and defeated the Mughal army.

Miri-Piri:
Guru Hargobind ji introduced the concept of Miri-Piri, which means the integration of spiritual and temporal powers. He wore two swords, which symbolized the dual nature of his authority, spiritual and temporal. 

The Martyrdom of Guru Arjan Dev:
Guru Hargobind ji responded to the martyrdom of his father, Guru Arjan Dev ji, by defeating the Mughal army and capturing the governor of Lahore, Wazir Khan. He also ensured that the perpetrators of the crime were brought to justice.

Guru Hargobind ji’s Legacy:
Guru Hargobind Sahib’s legacy is one of leadership, courage, and innovation. He laid the foundation for the militarization of the Sikh community and established the Akal Takht as a symbol of Sikh sovereignty. He also emphasized the importance of social justice and charity, and his teachings continue to inspire Sikhs around the world today.
